  I might be the one learning to cycle this week but for Cheryl Cole, it was “on yer bike” also this morning. The big showbiz story is that she has been given the book from the US X Factor. She has only been in the States for a couple of weeks but it seems it was just never gonna work and bosses on the show have said “nooo, Geordie lass!”

  Do you know the different parts of a bicycle? Probably not. But one thing is for sure; if you’re old enough to be reading this, you’re probably able to cycle one!

  Not only do I not know the names of the different parts (apart from the saddle, wheels and handlebars, obviously), I can not cycle a bike! There, I said it! How I’ve reached twenty nine years of age without learning is a mystery but it will be rectified this week on Beat Breakfast. This is all Niall Power’s idea. Inspired by Barack Obama’s words “is féidir linn” in Dublin yesterday, he’s all about the “yes we can” attitude. But this morning he asked what CAN’T you do? Have a listen in today’s clip. • YES WE WOULD!

  President of the United States, Barack Obama started his twenty four hour visit to Ireland this morning. Air Force One touched down in Dublin at just after 9.30am and for the second time in a week (after the Queen’s visit began last Tuesday), we were all glued to our TV screens as he walked down the steps.

  Not really interested in the politics of it all, the girls in the office all fancy the pants of Barack and so I decided to make a special poster for the occasion. The slogan – a play on Obama’s own famous ‘Yes We Can’ – sums up the feeling among the ladies this morning!

  Another story worth checking out today is the growing trend in the USA of what they’re calling Baby Gender Reveal parties! It is exactly what it sounds like. People gather to find out the sex of a pregnant woman’s baby. More details in this link. To me, it sounds like just another excuse to make people to give you presents! Shnakey!

• CAR RAGE!

  The familiar sight of a row going on between a man and a woman in a car. And there’s a new survey that confirms we’re more likely to get angry in a car than get amorous. In fact, there’s a huge number of people who have been DUMPED in their cars! You can read more about it here.

• That’s Cat, Lad!

  Random enough, you might think, to post a picture of a cheetah on the blog but the fastest animal on the planet played a big part in one of the Beat Breakfst crew’s weekend. Mary was in Cork and visited Fota Wildlife Park. Have a listen as she describes feeding time for the cheetahs! FOTA

  As well as the Eurovision Song Contest, the big talking point on the show was the upcoming visit of the Quen to the South East this week. We’re going to be in Tipperary on Friday when Lizzy comes to see the Rock of Cashel but as an aside, there was some other Royal talk on the show.

  Kate and Wills keep proving that they’re very much the modern royal couple while Mary had some strong opinions of Prince Charles after watching a documentary! ROYALS

  I needed cheering up after all of that nonsense and here’s the story that did it. There’s a new iPhone app called iAugment that allows the ladies to check out what they’d look like with a boob job. So, in the interest of research, we had a go. Unfortunately, Mary wouldn’t let us take a picture of her so we had to take another route. We had a go on Keira Knightley(!) She’s famously not all that well endowed so we thought she would be the perfect guinea pig. And you can have a look at the before and after pics on our facebook page today!

• DUMPLING?

  So this is a dumpling. An apple one, to be precise. We were talking about cooking this morning and when someone told us of their dumpling disaster, we realised that Mary didn’t like them, Liam had never had one and I…couldn’t tell you what one was! But Mary tried to explain. FOOD MONDAY

  The whole topic came up after a story that said millions of people are not able to cook some of the most basic meals and certainly couldn’t make the amount of different dishes their mums used to make years ago. Which is all quite sad. Check out the full stats here.

  Another story we had a laugh with today was about the guy who got lost and wandered in to a women’s prison and got stuck there. Yes it does sound like the plot of a porno but it actually happened. Read it here.
