Ireland's first brewing degree course set up in IT Carlow

IT Carlow has launched the country's first Bachelor of Science degree programme in Brewing and Distilling

Students who attend the course will learn the necessary skills to join one of the country's fastest growing industries.

28 distilleries are operating or being developed on the island of Ireland with the number of microbreweries expected to grow to 100 by 2025.

Seamus O'Hara's who's company, Carlow Brewing Company, celebrates 20 years in business this year, thinks there'll plenty of jobs in the future.

"Right now, there's around 500 people employed directly in craft brewing in Ireland. I think that's going to double in the next two to three years.

"Some of that will brewers, marketing, commercial and so on but everyone in this industry needs to know something about beer and needs to have the technical knowledge.

"I think anyone coming through with any qualifications in brewing will have great opportunities"
