Status Orange Alert for entire country as Storm Georgina arrives tonight

Met Eireann has updated its latest weather warning to Status Orange for the entire country.

A low pressure system is on the way tonight and it has been officially named as Storm Georgina by Met Eireann.

The system will track to the northwest of the country tonight.

Southwest winds will reach mean speeds between 65 and 80km/h, gustin up to 120 km/h for a time.

The weather warning is valid from midnight tonight until 5am tomorrow morning.

A Status Orange alert is issued for weather conditions which have the capacity to impact significantly on people in the affected areas, and implies that all recipients in the affected areas should prepare themselves in an appropriate way for the anticipated conditions.

A separate Status Yellow wind warning is in place from 9pm tonight until 9am tomorrow morning.
