The countdown to Ireland's biggest Christmas festival has begun!

The 19-day festive extravaganza, Winterval, was launched today, October 7,  in Waterford city.

Kicking off on November 19th and running for over five weeks, this year's event promises to be the biggest edition yet with over 100 free and ticketed festive activities, shows and surprises.

Visitors and locals can look forward to a non-stop journey to a world of Christmas celebration, festive food, craft markets, live music, arts performance, family attractions, and a host of other seasonal surprises.

Festival co-director Shell Holden says they're blending the old with the new this year:

“Building upon the wonderfully rich and much-loved 9 year history of Winterval, this year’s world-class festival line-up is bigger and brighter than ever with Ireland’s largest Christmas tree measuring over 50ft tall, over 100 free and ticketed festive activities, shows and surprises and over 130 hours of festive-fun, memory-makers and belly-laughs for all ages to enjoy.”

Adding to the already impressive list of activities is a brand-new fun-focused festive area in the heart of the Viking Triangle called The Winter Wonder Events Quarter, while food lovers can gorge themselves at the all-new Winter Palace at Bishop's Palace Café in conjunction with Blackwater Distillery.

Commenting on this year’s Winterval, The Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Joe Kelly says “We are delighted that the magic of Winterval is returning to Waterford once again. This year, more than ever, a festival that celebrates family and togetherness is particularly welcome. Waterford has so much to offer all year round, but Winterval really focuses the spotlight on the magic of the city and county."
