Baftas 2022: the winners and losers

In case you've spent the last 24 hours under a rock, the Baftas were on our screens last night.

It was a night of glitz, glam, strange speeches, and Putin-digs.

Dame Shirley Bassey opened the BAFTA Film Awards 2022 ceremony with a performance of the iconic James Bond song ‘Diamonds Are Forever'.

Kenneth Branagh's Belfast won the award for Outstanding British Film at last night's awards.

Irish on-screen talent Ruth Negga, Ciarán Hinds, Jessie Buckley, and Caitríona Balfe were nominated but, unfortunately, didn't make it home with any silverware.

Among the big winners at the ceremony in London's Albert Hall were The Power of the Dog, Dune, and CODA.

Will Smith, Troy Kotsur, Joanna Scanlon, and Ariana DeBose all went home with acting prizes.

One of the most notable moments from last night's ceremony came from host Rebel Wilson's not-too-subtle dig at president Putin.

After she discussed how Emilia Jones’ musical performance on the show would be aided by a pair of sign language interpreters, she then said: “And in all sign languages, this is the gesture for Putin,” before raising her middle finger, which was blurred out by the BBC.
