Are you as buzzed for tonight's Derry Girls return as these people?

Derry Girls returns to our TV screens tonight after almost two years away.

While this is sadly the beginning of the end for the hit comedy show, excitement is still high for the return of the four girls and the English fella.

The trailer that was released a little under a month ago has already racked up nearly a million views on YouTube and depicts the Derry Girls in an array of potentially absurd but also relatable situations.

Set during the infamous 'Troubles' in Northern Ireland in the 1990's, the show weaves moments of comedic gold with somber and serious stretches. The fact it doesn't shy away from the reality that the girls and the rest of Derry were experiencing has garnered it much praise worldwide.

After being first released in 2018 and a second season following the year after, praise from critics and fans came quick and fast for the show. The third season was announced later in 2019 and it finished filming last Christmas.

Fans have gone above and beyond to show their support for their show . Shirts have been made and even a mural of the five main stars has been made in the city of Derry itself.

Granted, the show focuses on the main five, but it doesn't forgo its surrounding characters. Fans of the ever-quotable Sister Michael will be delighted to see her return, while other characters like Gerry Quinn, Aunt Sarah and Granddad Joe look like they will also be given the spotlight this season.

From seemingly mundane days in school, parties and trips across the border with IRA escapees, Derry Girls is a dark comedy that perfectly encapsulates the highs and lows of teenage life while also living through an extraordinary time.  Plus if the show coming to a close isn't enough to keep fans hooked, rumors of a possible movie on the horizon are surely enough to keep any and all viewers interested.
