GTA 6 development 'well underway', Rockstar confirms

Development for the latest game in the series Grand Theft Auto is well underway, Rockstar has confirmed.

After years of rumours and speculation, players will be entered into a new story in the near future.

A spokesperson at Rockstar says "with the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series."

"With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway."

There was doubt that GTA 6 would ever be released, as 2013's GTA V, originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360, has been "remade" twice.

The game was re-released to keep up with next-gen consoles such as the PS4 and Xbox One and this Spring the game wll hit the shelves again for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

According to Rockstar, Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S features new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing, as well as offering the technical advancements of the latest console generation with faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, platform-specific features like advanced haptic feedback, and much more.

Players also got to journey back to the original 3D era games, with Rockstar releasing The Definitive Edition: Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy where the genre-defining classics of the original Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas were updated for a new generation with across-the-board enhancements including new lighting and environmental upgrades, with high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more, bringing these beloved worlds to life with all-new levels of detail.
