Ireland's Most Successful Indie Musician and YouTube sensation to speak to WIT students

Ireland’s most successful yet unheard of musician will visit WIT to discuss going from failed band member to having 150 million YouTube followers

Gavin Dunne's YouTube channel has in excess of 150 Million views but you won't see see him gigging in your nearest venue or signing copies of his latest album in Tower Records, Gavin, under the alias, Miracle of Sound, is the quintessential YouTube sensation.

Having been involved with a band that eventually called it a day, Gavin found himself at a loose end, at home compiling clips from his favourite video games and films, creating sound designs and compositions to accompany the images. He posted some of his work to YouTube, got up the next morning only to find he'd gone viral.

Since then, he has landed contracts from multinational entertainment corporations and all from the spare room of his apartment in Cork City.

Gavin will attend Garter Lane on Thursday 9 March to talk about his experience with WIT students from the BA (Hons) Music and the BSc (Hons) Entertainment Systems. At the event, which is open to the general public, Gavin will play some music for his fans as well as offering tips and advice to those wishing to become YouTube sensations.

Gavin tapped in to a huge community of gamers and sci-fi fans. "I would say about 60%-70% of the songs I’ve released are based on character stories from movies or games or TV shows. The music I make for each song has to fit somehow with that theme, or that world or that universe.

The genre is completely different with every song,” he explains.
