This isn't the first time the heat has been turned up on Carr as he recently was slashed with complaints over a joke about the travelling community used in his own Netflix show His Dark Material.

The UK comedian suggests that the horrific terror attack on New York in 2001 is similar to the departure of Zayn Malik from the boy band One Direction.

Carr says that the audience "might think this is silly, but it’s absolutely true".

He continues by saying that when Zayn left the band, "for me, it was like 9/11 — I didn’t care about that either."

He finished by saying that "the more interesting story is how I met Osama."
