Kilkenny's Cartoon Saloon receives 2019 Oscars nomination

The nominations for the 91st Academy Awards were revealed this afternoon.

Kilkenny's Cartoon Saloon's Late Afternoon received the nod in the shortlist of the Animated Short category.

Irish film Detainment was nominated in the Live Action Short Film category.

The true story is based on interview transcripts and records from the Jamie Bulger case in 1993.

Dubliner Robbie "Fish-eye" Ryan also got the nod for The Favourite in the cinematography category.

Roma, A Star Is Born, Green Book, The Favourite and Bohemian Rhapsody are up for Best Picture.

Carlow's Saoirse Ronan, who already has 3 Oscar nominations to her name, didn't receive a nod this year.

She was the lead actress in the drama/history film Mary Queen of Scots alongside Margot Robbie.
