Lose Yourself this Winter | Beat's Box Set Picks

As the nights begin to draw in and the temperatures suddenly dip, we’re no longer seeking our thrills outdoors and we’re A-OK with that; instead we’re turning our attention to the world of wonder inside our TV screens and reveling in the chance to debate a show’s twists and turns on social media.

You wouldn’t want to be left out of the conversation, now would you?

Ask any story junkie who’s ever devoured a box set in one sitting, only pulling themselves away to rehydrate or go to go the bathroom before they’re right back in front of the screen: In 2016, given the incredible calibre of TV productions in the US and the UK and the world-class stars they attract, there’s simply no greater way to lose yourself than with a nail-biting box set.

This winter with the Sky Box Sets and HD pack, prepare to lose yourself in a story so good you’ll forget what season we’re in entirely and you’ll struggle to talk about anything else. With over 350 box sets to choose from, many of which are exclusive and unavailable elsewhere, not to mention their 65 channels in stunning HD, the prospect of a duvet day has never been more attractive. In fact, when we now look out our window on a Saturday morning to find that the rain is beating down, we’re more than a little excited.

Bring it on, we say.

Here are five unmissable shows now available on Sky Box Sets that we cannot WAIT to lose ourselves in this winter.

Gomorrah

What is the point of winter without an addictive crime drama? Gomorrah is a Italian crime drama based on Roberto Saviano’s best-selling books about the Camorra, the Neapolitan crime syndicate. Gomorrah follows the lives of those caught up in the Naples criminal underworld and the violent struggle to get to the top.

Billions

If you fancy the idea of becoming a total hermit (we understand), chow down on Billions. Paul Giamatti and Homeland's Damian Lewis star in a new nail-biting new series to get your teeth into. Paul Giamatti stars as brilliant prosecutor Chuck Rhoades, who is thrown into a high stakes game of cat and mouse with Wall Street billionaire Bobby Axelrod, played by Lewis.

The Wire

An oldy but oh, what a goody. If you haven’t yet immersed yourself in this incredible and critically acclaimed HBO series, you need to stop what you’re doing and upgrade your Sky service now. If you’ve already seen it, it deserves a second outing. Det. James McNulty is part of a Baltimore detail tasked with taking down an inner-city drug scene. Created by former police reporter David Simon, expect a gritty and realistic American urban culture, and the lives of junkies, dealers, cops and politicians caught up in the drugs empire. With Brit actors Dominic West and Idris Elba.

The Affair

With the new and hotly anticipated season just around the corner, now’s the time to binge on season 1 and 2 of The Affair. This is a Golden Globe award-winning drama set in the Hamptons, exploring the fall out from an affair between a married waitress and a New York teacher spending a summer with his in-laws. Another incredible turn from Dominic West, also starring Ruth Wilson.
