Zendaya Makes History at Emmys

Zendaya has become the first black woman in history to win the Emmy for leading actress in a drama series twice.

The 26 year old is also the youngest two time winner of any Emmy in history.

Zendaya received the accolade for her portrayal of Ruby Bennett(Rue) in Sam Levinson's Euphoria.

The HBO series follows a group of teenagers and their various struggles with addiction, relationships,.family and identity as they come of age. It has been widely acclaimed for its in-depth portrayal of sensitive topics and shockingly gritty cinematography.

Wearing a navy Valentino gown, Zendaya said "This means so much, thank you so much. To all the incredible actresses in this category,I'm so honoured to be beside you . Thank you to the incredible cast and crew of Euphoria, thank you for making such a safe space to make this very difficult show."

Zendaya continued, “My greatest wish for Euphoria was that it could help heal people and I just want to say thank you to everyone who has shared their story with me. I want you to know that anyone who has loved a Rue or feels like they are Rue, I want you to know that I’m so grateful for your stories and I carry them with me and I carry them with her.”
