Carlow newspaper's front page goes viral with what is THE most Irish headline you'll see today

Love them or loathe them, your local newspaper is always going to find a regional slant to that national news story.

This week's Carlow People is no exception, finding a nugget of statistical wisdom in the trove of census data released.

Yup, that's right. There are two more women than men in Co. Carlow.

But who are they?

Willie Daly, Ireland's most famous matchmaker, weighed in on the viral headline in an exclusive chat with Beat.

"It's a big surprise for me that there are more women than men in the East as there are far more men to every one woman in the West," he mused.

"In fact, there are 29.5 men for every woman in the whest."

Daly believes that the statistics should be an alarm call for any South East singletons.

"There are loads of honest, decent men on the farm in the west, all visibly handsome and attractive.

"The Carlow girls are very welcome to come and visit us at the Lisdoonvarna Festival and they’ll probably leave with 7 or 8 proposals of marriage.

"Lisdoonvarna is marvellous, there’s magic in the air regarding relationships, and not a single woman who leaves the festival without a number", the legendary matchmaker concluded.

So, are you one of the two spare women of Co. Carlow? Let us know!
