'Epic' South East rail journey most of us have taken lauded by UK press

The rail line between Rosslare and Dublin has been hailed as "epic" in a glowing review by UK news outlet The Guardian.

The rail journey was listed as one of six "stunning" train journeys in Ireland that should be taken by UK holidaymakers due to the Irish government's recent fare reduction.

The Guardian recommends UK tourists ditch the car and take this island's most scenic rail routes instead.

Among the routes mentioned are Cork to Cobh, Belfast to Dublin, Derry to Coleraine, Galway to Limerick, Longford to Sligo, and the aforementioned Rosslare to Dublin line.

In a glowing review by journalist Vic O'Sullivan, the vista outside Rosslare is described as an "endless sky stretching far out over the water and marshy plains" before making way for the "church spires of Wexford Town [which] appear over its brown brick-and-plaster-rendered architecture."

The writer goes on to compliment the "striking, ancient Norman settlement" of Enniscorthy and the "curves and twists along the contours of the River Slaney" before the line snakes its way through the "Alpine vistas" of Co. Wicklow

Fares on Irish public transport were cut by 20% in April until the end of 2022 and halved permanently for those aged 19 to 23, the first such reductions in Ireland since the 1940s.
