Meteor shower to light up skies across the South East tonight with 'green-coloured fireballs'

People could see two shooting stars every minute in skies over the South East tonight.

The Geminid Meteor Shower will peak tonight between 3 am and 7 am.

The shower is renowned among stargazers for its brightness with Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office saying people can expect "green-coloured fireballs" in the sky tonight.

David Moore of Astronomy Ireland is appealing for people to record and submit the shooting stars they see.

"We're expecting to see twenty times the average amount of shooting stars in the skies. This is the best shooting star shower meteor shower of the year and it peaks tonight!"
