A woman who stole €5 million worth of jewellery is to repay just €300.

Seven luxury stones from high-end jewellers Boodles in Mayfair, London were stolen by French woman Lulu Lakatos in March 2016.

The 60-year-old posed as a gem expert called 'Anna' who told staff at the jewellers that she was there to value expensive diamonds on behalf of a wealthy Russian client.

According to LADBible, Lulu stole the gems and swapped them out for fakes when Boodles boss Nicholas Wainwright left momentarily to call the apparent Russian buyer about the purchase.

Suspicious, jewellery diamond expert Emma Barton raised questions about the 60-year-old but upon inspecting her bag the jewels were not found. Hours later, with the valuable stones in their possession, Lakatos and her criminal associates fled the country, heading to France.

After being caught by the authorities, Lakatos, who was born in Romania, was convicted of conspiracy to steal on or before 10 March 2016 by a jury at Southwark Crown Court by a majority of 10.

Lulu was then sentenced to 5 and a half years in prison by Judge Emma Goodall QC.

During proceedings, Lakatos was ordered to pay £245 which was taken when she was arrested. It is also being reported that Lakatos is now being extradited to her home country, where she has a history of theft convictions to her name
