This may just be the modern Ebenezer Scrooge story

One woman has gone viral for sharing how her boyfriend kept an Excel spreadsheet of all the money she owed him, including the cost of a banana she ate in his mother's house.

Maddy Blythe posted a video to her Tiktok where she described her visit to her ex-boyfriend's mother's home, and the Excel invoice she received afterword.

"We get home from the trip and a few days later I get an email from my boyfriend that had an Excel document in it. The Excel doc was all of our shared expenses from the trip, which is fine, that's how we normally did things. I did notice one line on the Excel document that I was kind of confused about."

Maddy's boyfriend had spared no detail from his spreadsheet and had actually charged his girlfriend for the snacks she had eaten in his mother's home.

"The line said "Breakfast for $3.23". I asked him, and he looks at me deadpan and goes "Well that's for the banana and piece of toast you ate at my Mom's."

Maddy questioned her boyfriend on this ludicrous debt, and he replied " yeah well you ate that so y'know you owe me and my mom money."

As she recounted the shocking story, she said to her followers: "This man was dead-ass trying to charge me for a banana"

Naturally, she was outraged over this, especially because she had treated her ex-boyfriend's mother to gifts upon arrival. "Of course like the good guest I was, I brought a little gift basket, brought some wine, brought some nice soaps, candles, whatnot," Maddy said she had also paid for some of his mother's dinner out as a gesture of generosity, so she could not believe she was being asked to pay back the price of a banana.

Commenting on the video, many of Maddy's followers felt the relationship was doomed as soon as spreadsheets appeared on the scene.

"The fact that you were okay getting a bill in spreadsheet format from your bf?" wrote one follower.

"An Excel spreadsheet with prices broken down is insane to me" wrote another.  "Like is that your girlfriend or your boyfriend?"

Maddy says she was in a relationship with this man for 3 years and justified his spreadsheet practice by telling herself "oh well he works in finance."
