Play Irish - Exiles

Our Play Irish Artist of the Week on Beat Breakfast with IASCA is EXILES and their new single 'Rearview Mirror'.

After a year spent locked in the studio making new music, producer-musician duo EXILES are back with their latest single, Rearview Mirror, due for release on Friday 1st February.

Rearview Mirror was produced by Michael Heffernan (Dermot Kennedy, Chasing Abbey, Gavin James, The Script, The Coronas) and sees the Carlow duo Jack O’Flaherty and Darragh O’Connor modernise their previous synth-wave sound to make one of the most sophisticated pop songs to come out of Ireland in a very long time.

With a gigging roster beginning in February and an arsenal of new songs ready to take them all the way through to festival season, 2019 is set to be a big year for this band from Ireland’s south-east who have developed a knack for fusing genres to produce decadent pop songs with hints of atmospheric nostalgia that hark back to their influences, which range from St. Lucia, Fenech-Soler and Fleetwood Mac to Talking Heads, Bell X1 and Arctic Monkeys.

EXILES’ Darragh O’Connor says: “With these new songs, we wanted to look at other influences and see how we could add more layers. As a band, we’re still in our infancy, so we’re having fun challenging perceptions - our own and other peoples. We spent most of last year in the studio so we can’t wait to get out there and play live again.”

There is a confidence about EXILES’ music that comes from an obsession with their craft, innate talent and a mission to embrace contradictions, with Hot Press Magazine anticipating, “Everyone might want a piece of these guys soon.”

After receiving an outstanding reaction to their recent support slots for Le Galaxie and King Bones, EXILES will launch Rearview Mirror at Scraggs Alley in Carlow on Saturday 9th February 2019 at 8pm.
