Loggerhead turtles arrive to South East

A rescue centre in Co Wexford is appealing to the public to be on the lookout for loggerhead turtles which may wash up on the South East.

Two turtles have washed ashore in Kilmore Quay in recent weeks - one sadly passed away before Christmas while the second was cared for at the Seal Rescue Centre in Courtown.

The turtle, who was named Ninja by the centre, made a full recovery and has been transferred to the Galway Acquarium with the intention of releasing her in the Caribbean.

The mild and stormy weather has contributed to the turtles arriving in Ireland.
