Former Xtravision-HMV employees holding a protest

Former employees of Xtravision-HMV are holding a picket outside a HMV store in Dublin city.

The company went into liquidation on Wednesday with the loss of 580 jobs in around 80 stores.

The workers say 30 of these stores were given prior notice that the shops would close at the end of January.

Phil, who worked in Xtra-vision in the Carlow branch for 8 years, says he was given no indication before Wednesday that the shop was to close.

He says he hasn't yet received his P45 to claim statutory redundancy or social welfare:

'It's just the worst possible outcome that we could have imagined'

'We've been screwed over, basically, and we feel like it's a kick in the face.'
