Man who murdered Wexford student has possible early release bid

The father of a murdered Wexford student is calling on Japanese authorities to keep her killer in prison.

The Sunday World newspaper has obtained prison documents that reveal Richard Hinds has failed to convince Japanese authorities he's been rehabilitated.

That's despite the American undergoing a five-year regime of remorse classes.

Richard Hinds from Memphis in the United States murdered, twenty-one year old, Irish student Nicola Furlong by strangulation in 2012.

Wexford-born Nicola was completing a college exchange programme in Japan at the time as a part of her International Business Degree from DCU.

New prison documents detail that Japanese authorities are less than happy with Hinds' attitude while serving his sentence at Fuchu Prison.

Hinds was due to be released in November, but the new documents reveal authorities have the option to keep him behind bars until November of 2022.

Nicola's Dad, Andrew Furlong, is now pleading with authorities to keep his daughter's killer behind bars if they have any sense of responsibility to the public.
