76 sex-offenders haven't informed Gardaí about their whereabouts in the last year

76 sex-offenders have failed to tell the gardai about their whereabouts over the past year.

They're supposed to keep them informed about where they live - and notify them of an address-change within a week.

Junior Justice Minister, Hildegarde Naughton, says 1,708 sex-offenders fall under this law.

Independent TD Denis Naughten says the 76 breaches are concerning.

"The Gardaí, under the present law, are not in the position to monitor sex offender following their release from prison.

And it's only when they come to their attention for some other reason, that they're actually charged a breach of their post-release conditions.

"These figures I believe are just the tip of the iceberg to what are blatant breaches of existing law."
