Survey find 73% of LGBTI+ students feel unsafe in school

73% of LGBTI+ students feel unsafe in school, according a new survey.

BelongTo found that 77% of LGBTI+ students experience verbal abuse while 38% have experienced physical abuse.

The survey is part of the organisation's Stand Up Awareness Week - Ireland's largest anti LGBTI+ bullying campaign.

Speaking to Beat news, CEO of BelongTo Moninne Griffith says schools can do more to support these students:

"We need investment in schools...teacher training, school policy and planning and curriculum development, so, young LGBT people feel that their school is somewhere that they belong."
