A section of the M9 motorway in Carlow is closed following a crash

Update:

Gardaí have now closed the road Northbound between Junctions 5 and 4 too.

Earlier:

Emergency services are dealing with a crash on the M9 motorway.

It happened between junctions 4 and 5 southbound heading towards Kilkenny.

Gardaí say the road will be closed for some time.

Diversions are in place and motorists are being advised to avoid the area where possible.

The extent of any injuries, or the number of vehicles involved, is not yet known.

Update: The M9 is now also closed between Junctions 5 and 4 Northbound. Traffic diversions are in place. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes.
