Beat scoops bronze award at annual IMRO Radio Awards

Beat 102 103 is celebrating after receiving a bronze award at the annual national IMRO Radio Awards.

Dubbed the Oscars of radio, the annual event was back in-person for the first time since 2019 with a capacity crowd of close to 800 people. The ceremony was held at the Lyrath Hotel in Kilkenny on Friday night.

Beat was shortlisted in two categories for the station’s massive promotion ‘On the Run’ which involved people across the South East trying to locate presenters Niall Power and Darren Rice who were ‘on the run’ across the region.

Beat Breakfast presenter Shonagh Lyons was left “abandoned” presenting both Beat Breakfast and Beat Drive, in the studio. She engaged the help of Beat’s 154,000 weekly audience on air & 850,000 social media followers to help her locate the broadcasting duo.

The hugely engaging promotion ended with a Carlow woman finding the pair in Kilkenny City where she scooped the prize of €1,000.

Speaking following the awards ceremony, Beat’s CEO Gabrielle Cummins, says:

“Beat has been producing top-quality, award-winning promotions since the market leading station began broadcasting in 2003. This contest, project led by our talented Solutions manager Claire Rowe really took audience engagement to a whole new level! We often reference the importance of “talkability” of a competition and “On the Run” had this quality in spades. A huge team effort! We all had great fun pulling this together and we know our audience loved playing along too so it’s the icing on the cake to receive this national accolade for our innovative campaign.”
