He'll make a statement later, but it's understood he'll remain in post until the Conservative Party's elected his successor over the summer.

It follows the resignation of 50 members of his government in two days, and the release of a letter from his new chancellor telling him to 'go now'.

The mass rebellion began it was revealed Mr Johnson knew about allegations of inappropriate behaviour against MP Chris Pincher - before he promoted him to deputy chief whip.
