Buses and taxis bring homeless to safety from Ophelia

Minister Eoghan Murphy has provided an update on homelessness services during Storm Ophelia.

Buses and taxis are being used around the country to bring homeless people to safety from Hurricane Ophelia.

Minister Eoghan Murphy has released an update on homelessness services during Storm Ophelia.

Buses are currently running in the Dublin area, picking up homeless people and bringing them indoors.

Meanwhile outside Dublin, minibus services and taxis are currently transporting homeless individuals and rough sleepers.

Additional facilities have opened up across the country to provide shelter including an additional 200 emergency bed spaces in the Dublin area, which were sourced by Dublin City Council and DRHE.

So far, there have been over 100 calls and messages to emergency lines regarding homeless individuals- all of which have been followed up on.
