Call for tourism plan linking Thurles Castle and British Royal Family

There are calls for a tourism plan to be build on the link between the British Royal Family and Thurles.

The Co. Tipperary town has two castles in ruins; one at the Westgate and one at the Bridge.

It's claimed one of the castles was where Lady Butler lived - and late Princess Diana is a direct descendent of Lady Butler.

Independent Councillor from Tipperary Jim Ryan spoke to Beat News:

"There's huge historical value to both these castles, but especially the one at the West Gate in Thurles.

Who lived there was a lady by the name of Lady Elizabeth - she lived there and is buried in Thurles.

The Royal Family on both Prince Charles and the late Lady Diana are direct decendents of Lady Butler through her two marriages.

So there's a huge connection there between Thurles - the castle in Thurles - and the British Royal family."
