Childminders could face jail if they fail to register with Tusla under new regulations

Independent Childminders could face jail if they fail to register with Tusla under new regulations.

The measure is part of a new Government plan to regulated the childminding sector.

The Department of Children has confirmed to the Irish Examiner that once the new rules are brought in, it will be illegal for unregistered childminders to continue to operate.

The rules include registering with Tusla, undergoing training and obtaining a childminding qualification.

Meanwhile, a number of childminders across the South East have contacted Beat news this morning to argue against the information released from the Department.

They say it's "inaccurate" and "scaremongering" and have criticised the move.
