€10m investments in Bulmers plant Clonmel creates 60 jobs

€10m investments in Bulmers plant Clonmel creates 60 jobs

A ten million euro investment in the bottling facility at the Bulmers plant in Clonmel has been announced.

The move will create 60 new jobs at the Annerville site in the South Tipp town.

C&C  have lined up for a €10 million plastic bottle filling system to meet the growing demands of the British and Irish markets.

This is a big vote of confidence by the company for the Clonmel site and  especially for those at Borrisoleigh that wer affected by the closure of Gleesons.

South Tipp Deputy Mattie McGrath said "It is a clear sign that Tipperary can still attract significant investment in a post Brexit world where cooperation between the UK and Ireland is still so vitally important for employment.”

Mayor of Clonmel, Councillor Andy Moloney  also says the announcement by Bulmers is encouraging:

"We weren't expecting this announcement. Bulmers have had their difficulties but now they're up and going again and they need to make this investment to be competitive in the English market."

Another boost to the Town was the company's agreement to enter talks about a proposed visitor centre in the Dowds Lane site.

This has been in the pipeline for a long time as the former Clonmel Borough Council would have proposed the motion prior to the current council.

The site at Dowds lane was home to the cider making facility for years where the waft of the crushing apples could be smelt thought the town.

Mayor Moloney added, "The older crowd in the town would definitely have gotten the smell when the apples were being crushed, this time of year particularly is when you'd get a waft across the whole town and everybody knew the Bulmers facility was going. Some people just worked in crushing and they worked long hours in the crushing.

This would be a great anchor tenant in the town and would be along the lines as the Jameson Experiences in Middleton and The Guinness Storehouse in Dublin."
