Forest fires near Chernobyl have been put out

Several forest fires on contaminated land near Chernobyl have been put out.

The fires that started off in Northern Ukraine had been burning and moving closer to the infamous nuclear plant for the past ten days.

Hundreds of firefighters backed by aircraft have been working in the region - with some flames getting almost a mile from the decommissioned nuclear plant.

Ukrainian officials say they stopped the fires from engulfing radioactive waste depots.
