A Father Ted actor has confirmed he wants to run for president

Artist, presenter and actor Kevin Sharkey has confirmed he wants to run for president

If successful, Sharkey would be the first black Uactarán na hÉireann.

Coined the most 'Bankable Artist' by the Sunday Independent, the Donegal man is best known for his life-size bull sculpture covered in €15,000 worth of bank notes.

Eagle-eyed Father Ted fans might recognise him for his short but memorable role as Father Shaft, coining the phrase "Sure I wouldn't know, I'm from Donegal".

Sharkey also believes the office of president should do more for homelessness than it currently does.

The former broadcaster also believes we need to take more control of our borders and immigration, while he's also raised concerns about the European Union, claiming Ireland's a victim of "experimental politics"
