Gardaí appeal for information on sea swimmer stalker in black Volkswagen

Gardaí are investigating reports of a male stalking female sea swimmers in the north east of the country.

All of the incidents are believed to have occurred around the Salterstown Beach area of Co. Louth.

Numerous distressed women have come forward, with two reporting that they were followed by a male motorist in a black Volkswagen.

In response to the reports, gardaí have advised women not to swim alone in the area.

According to the Irish Mirror, one woman said she "noticed him a lot over the past few months, but tonight he pulled up behind my car when I was in the water and when I got back into the car he followed me when I drove off."

She continued: "Thankfully I wasn't alone. I rang it into the garda station and it turns out there have been multiple reports of him doing it to other women. "

Gardaí have questioned a male in his early thirties in relation to the reports, but have since released him without charge with a file being sent to the DPP.

Anyone who may have been followed or harassed in the Salterstown area is urged to come forward and give any helpful information they may have.
