Gardaí have confirmed that they are investigating a number of reports about the posting, sharing and uploading of personal images online.

It comes after a social media post concerning females in the Wexford area emerged online last week.

Gardaí are reminding people that the publication and sharing of images without consent is a criminal offence.

They are urging anyone who is concerned that they have been the victim of such an offence to contact their local Garda station.

In a statement to Beat News, Gardaí say;

"The publication and/ or sharing of intimate images without consent is a criminal offence.  An Garda Síochána fully recognises that the publication of intimate images without the consent of individuals causes great upset and trauma to them."

"Any person who is concerned that they have been a victim following the uploading of personal explicit imagery online without their consent, at any time, should contact their local Garda Station."
