High divorce rates in two south east counties

A new report has found Waterford and Carlow have among the highest divorce rates in the country.

The two South East counties and Dublin make up the top 3 for the average number of divorces per 100,000 people.

In 2014 there were 450 divorce applications in the South East - the most of which were in Wexford and Tipp at 125 each.

However when taking into account the population of each county, Waterford and Carlow are among the worst in the country for succesfull marraiges.

An average of 88 applications for divorce per 100,000 people were made in Waterford that year, with only Dublin faring higher at 101.

Carlow comes in at number 3 on the list at 86.

If you're looking for your best chance of a long and happy marriage then head to Kildare which has the lowest divorce rates in the country.

Despite the figures divorce is still very much a rariety nationwide compared to other countries.

Recent UN figures have shown only a handful of countries have a lower divorce rate than Ireland, including Guatemala, Peru, and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
