Investigation launched into assault on 13 year old boy at hurling match

Gardai have launched an investigation after a 13 year old boy was assualted at a hurling match in Kilkenny this week.

The incident happened at St John's Park on Hebron Road in an under-14 match between Tullogher Rosbercon and Galmoy Windgap.

A brawl reportedly broke out after a male spectator and some others got involved in a dispute between two players.

The game was called off and Gardai were called to the scene.

A 13 year old boy sustained minor injuries and was treated by a nurse at the scene before being moved to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny.

He has since been released.

Gardai say it happened on Wednesday at around 8pm and are continuing to investigate.
