The Defence Forces have confirmed that the air ambulance flight carrying Trooper Shane Kearney has landed safely in Ireland.

He is now being transferred by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital to continue receiving medical treatment.

The 23-year-old from Cork suffered serious head injuries in an attack on UN forces last week.

Private Seán Rooney, who was killed in the same incident, will be laid to rest tomorrow.
