Kilkenny's Catriona Carey loses family home after defaulting on mortgage

Former Ireland hockley player and Kilkenny-woman Catriona Carey has lost her family home after defaulting on mortgage payments for 10 years.

The Sunday World newspaper reports this morning that Start Mortgages Designated Activity Company took possession of the property in Weir View Hill on Friday.

It's understood the locks on the property were changed and access was cut off.

According to the Sunday World, Catriona had already vacated the house a few weeks earlier, after an order for possession was granted to Start Mortgages in May of this year after she had built up arrears of more than €395,000.

Catriona Carey had been embroiled in controversy over an alleged mortgage scam, which was the subject of an RTE Investigates Programme.

It's understood those who paid her thousands of euro for mortgage deals that never happened will have little chance of recovering their money due to the extent of her own debts.
