Man appears in court after body of 4-year-old boy found in freezer

A man has appeared in court in the US charged with murder after the body of a young boy was found by police inside a freezer.

35-year-old Brandon Toseland was arrested last week after the body of 4-year-old Mason Dominguez was located by police inside a garage freezer hidden under a cardboard layer and items of food.

Las Vegas police were initially alerted to the presence of the body when Mason's sister handed her teacher a note written by her mother, who was believed to have been held captive by the boyfriend.

Mr Toseland, who was not a father to two children, is believed to have locked Mason in the couple's master bedroom after the child fell ill in early December. It is not yet known how the child died.

Investigators do not believe Mason's mother is in any way connected to the child's death.

Appearing in court, Mr Toseland was charged on two counts of first-degree kidnapping and one count of murder.

A fundraiser is currently underway to raise funds for the boy's funeral.
