Mattie McGrath wants to step up talks to form a Government

A Tipperary TD will be one of 5 independents meeting with Fine Gael this morning to discuss the possibility of forming a minority Government.

Mattie McGrath announced he would be stepping up talks to form a Government in the national interests.

He will be joined in the meeting by fellow independents Denis Naughton, Dr Michael Harty, Michael Collins and Noel Grealish.

The Clonmel deputy told Beat News the country can't continue without a Government:

'This vaccuum is not healthy for democray, it's not good for the country, the homeless or the people on trollies.'

'We're going to meet with [Fine Gael] to explore putting together a programme for the Dail and how the Dail will be run'

'I believe that will entail support from Fianna Fail and I'm going to be telling Fine Gael that they have to support each other no matter who's in a minority government, and then we'll see what kind of policies they're talking about'
