Mother pens touching tribute to Irish teen following 'unexplained' death

The heartbroken mother of a teenager whose body was found on Monday has penned a touching tribute to both her boy and the local community who aided in the search effort.

The body of 15-year-old Matthew McCallan from Fintona in Co. Tyrone was reported missing after attending a country music event on Saturday night.

Following an intensive search by authorities and hundreds of locals, Matthew's body was located by the PSNI on Monday afternoon.

The teen's tragic death is currently being treated as "unexplained" by police, with detectives currently examining the circumstances.

In a touching tribute to the popular teenager, Matthew's mother Frances took to social media and described her boy as "beautiful" and "amazing."

The post reads: “To all the wonderful people who came out to help look for my beautiful son you were amazing, the community spirit was unbelievable."

It continued: "I can't thank you all enough. He is now an angel in heaven and is going to be missed so much by his mummy, daddy and loving family. Sleep tight my darling.”

Speaking on the day of the body's discovery PSNI Detective Inspector Michael Winters said: “Our thoughts are very much with Matthew’s devastated family who received this tragic news today. A number of specially trained officers are providing support to them at this time."
