New Covid-19 variant detected in 40 countries, but antibodies work against it

A study shows that covid antibodies work against the new "Mu" (PR: Mew) variant.

The strain is considered a "variant of interest" by the World Health Organisation but not yet a variant of "concern".

Professor of Immunology at Trinity College Dublin Luke O'Neill says it's one to watch as it's in 40 countries

"What they are looking at is; is it more transmissible like delta, can it dodge antibodies?"

"There was a study already in Paris which shows antibodies work against it, so that's good."

"The trouble is that it is there, it's different and they're monitoring it."
