Only for the resilience of Santy, NPHET would have cancelled Christmas - Tipp TD

Only for the resilience of Santa Clause, NPHET would have cancelled Christmas.

That's according to a Tipperary TD who has called on Ministers to back the music and arts sector in the run-up to the festive week.

Mattie McGrath told the Dail that PUP supports are not being filtered down to musicians and venues at a local level and only to big organisations.

"It's on the back of a failed reopening plan that you miserably failed and then the actions of NPHET ever before Cabinet decided or the Taoiseach."

"It devasted every pub, hotel, and venue. Everything was cancelled. Christmas was almost cancelled. But for the resilience of Santy, you would have cancelled it, and that's a horrible thing to say."
