Over 11,000 new cars sold in the South East in 2021

Over 11,000 people bought 2021 registered cars last year in the South East.

Figures from SIMI found a rise in new car sales nationwide in 2021 compared to the previous year.

104,932 new cars were registered in 2021 compared to 88,325 for the same period in 2020, that's an increase of 19%.

While 8,646 new electric cars were registered last year in comparison to 4,013 on the same period 2020.

In the South East, both Waterford and Tipperary had the biggest increase in the region with over 2,700 new cars sold in each county.

While Wexford sold over 2,600 followed by more than 1,800 in Kilkenny and over 1,100 in Carlow.

Grey remains the top selling colour for the sixth consecutive year while the hatchback was Ireland’s top selling car body type of 2021.
