‘People’s Protest’ to take place in Waterford next Saturday

A protest will take place in the region’s capital next Saturday afternoon to fight for 24/7 cardiac care at Waterford University Hospital.

People from across the South East are being urged to turn out and support UHW’s campaign for a second cath lab, which was rejected in the Herity Report.

The event on Saturday is being organised by the South East Patient Advocacy Group (SEPAG) who are appealing to people of the entire South East region to come out and voice their protest at the ongoing erosion of services including cardiology services at University Hospital Waterford.

Speaking to Beat of behalf of SEPAG, Hillary O'Neil stated that a previous march on September 24th had sent a very strong message to Kildare Street.

"The strength of this message will only be augmented with the coming protest. The issue cannot be put on the long finger in the hope that we will just go away.

"This is not a parish pump issue. This affects every single person in the region", said Hillary O'Neil.

"Above all, our major concern is if they cut one more service at UHW, our regional hospital could be downgraded to a general hospital"

The People’s Protest will assemble at Ballybricken in Waterford City at 2pm on January 14th (Saturday).
