The news comes as the Finance Minister has defended the Government's budget strategy in the face of rampant inflation.

Ministers have been appearing before an Oireachtas Committee to set out plans for September's budget.

They've said targeted measures will be brought in to help those hit worst by the rising cost of living.

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe was asked whether he still thinks not holding an emergency budget was the right call.
