SNOW has just fallen on the Sahara Desert for the first time in 40 Years

With the possibility of an Irish white Christmas a distant reality, those searching for colder climbs this festive season might want to pay a visit to one of the hottest places on Earth.

Yup, that's right. The land of sand, scorpions and the odd camel has experienced its first snowfall in a shade under four decades.

The images, taken by amateur photographer Karim Bouchetata, border Christmas postcard perfection rather than the hamlet's customary oasis role.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Karim noted that everyone was stunned to see the snow falling.

"It is such a rare occurrence", he said. "It looked amazing as the snow settled on the sand and made a great set of photos."

Still, the freak fall was not without its controversy, with some Trump supporters taking the pictures as de facto evidence of a global warming cover up - ignoring that the villages sits some 1,000 meters above sea level.
