Country to be battered by Storm Imogen tonight

Met Eireann has issued a yellow weather warning for the entire country as Storm Imogen reaches our shores. An orange weather warning is in place for the South West.

120 kmh gales are expected in what experts are suggesting could be the worst storm to hit us so far this Winter.

The warnings come into effect from midnight.

Cork and Kerry will the worst affected with waves of up to 15 metres predicted on the South coast.

Clare, Limerick and Waterford are also expected to have heavy winds overnight while temperatures will fall as low as 1C.

Temperatures are also expected to drop to as low as 1C overnight.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “Westerly winds will reach mean speeds of 65 to 75 km/h with gusts of 100 to 120 km/h, strongest winds along the coast.

Storms over the Winter have cost more than €1 billion worth of damage across Ireland and the UK.
