There are renewed calls for Ireland to decriminalise sex work

There are renewed calls for Ireland to decriminalise sex work.

The Sex Workers Alliance says the government needs to take action after Belgium changed its laws to recognise sex workers as legitimate employees.

It's estimated there are up to 3-thousand sex workers operating in Ireland.

Linda Kavanagh from the alliance, says:

"The change in law in Belgium is significant and Ireland should follow their example. This means that sex workers in Belgium can enjoy the rights that any other worker is granted.

Sex workers are so stigmatised they want to remain under the radar. This change should be welcomed in Ireland also"
