Two South-East houses sell for over €3 million in 2021

Two homes in the South-East have been sold for over €3 million!

The two rural properties, one in Kilkenny, and one in Waterford, were both sold for a whopping €3,250,000 in the last year by estate agent Sherry Fitzgerald.

In their 2021 country homes, farms and estates report, the estate agent says the pandemic and the popularity of working from home have 'changed the dynamics of the housing market'.

Head of the section Roseanne De Vere Hunt says the country homes market has 'exploded' in 2021, with sales up more than 100% on pre-pandemic levels in 2019, with their own company reporting a 30% growth over the last year.

That's been helped in no small part by two major sales in the South-East, accounting for an eye-watering €6,500,000 in total.

Kilcreene Lodge in the heart of Kilkenny City which includes grounds of 10 acres went for €3,250,000 - the second-most lucrative rural sale Sherry Fitzgerald made in 2021. That was matched only by Salterbridge House in Cappoquin, which includes 136 acres on a site once owned by Lismore Castle.

These country mansions were among the most expensive real estate in Ireland in 2021, but they weren't the only ones to make the rich list from the region!

Other seriously pricey properties include Altavilla, an 'imposing period house' on the outskirts of Cahir, which went for a cool €990,000 - and Bleach House, also in Cappoquin, went for €850,000.

However, the most expensive country property sold by Sherry Fitzgerald in 2021 was Seafield House, in Donabate, County Dublin.

The estate agent called it a 'magnificent and romantic Palladian mansion...on the edge of the city', build in the 1730s it sites on a site of approximately 80 acres.

The cost? €9,995,000.

We'll keep counting our pennies!
